York St John University hosts welcome service for the first female Dean of York Minster

Published: 14 May 2013

Students, staff, business leaders and local residents will attend a service at York St John University to welcome York Minster’s first female Dean.

The Very Reverend Vivienne Faull will host the mid-week service in Temple Hall. It will be one of her first public engagements outside of York Minster. Dean Faull will present a short talk, which will be followed by readings and worship.

Sue Reece, Pro Vice Chancellor (Development) at York St John University said: “The relationship between the University and York Minster is very strong and we are delighted to welcome Dean Faull. She has been at the forefront of the role of women in the church and our congregation are very excited to hear her views and vision.”

The Dean of York Minster carries overall responsibility for the work of the Minster, providing spiritual leadership and overseeing the business side of running the Dean and Chapter. These duties involve everything from managing finances and human resources to presiding and preaching at services.

Dean Faull is also a member of York St John University’s foundation committee, which is designed to preserve and develop the character of the University deriving from its Anglican foundation, and to ensure that Christian belief and worship continues to have a significant place in the life and work of the University.
