Celebrating York’s diverse range of faiths and cultures

Published: 23 April 2014

York International Festival takes place on Saturday; bringing together different faiths and cultures from across the wider community.

Across the day there will be performances, activities and stalls to entertain visitors to York’s Parliament Street. Performances on stage will include Japanese drumming,   a Polish Church band, Chinese opera, Indonesian dance and an African children’s choir.

Cultural and faith groups from York and the wider community are taking part and the event has been organised by the Chaplaincy Office at York St John University with support from City of York Council plus funding from a variety of community organisations.

Chris Cullwick, from York St John University’s Chaplaincy, said:  “We’re proud to be involved in the festival. This is the second year; it was a great success so we’re doing it again.

“It will be a full day of celebrating the increasing faith and cultural diversity that we are now enjoying in York. There’s a full programme of music, drama, fashion and displays so do come along.”

York International Festival, a Celebration of Faith and Culture, takes place in Parliament Street between 10.30am and 5.30pm.
