Charity art auction at York St John University

Published: 26 September 2014

York St John University will host a charity art auction next month featuring a piece by David Hockney.

The faxed artwork, DH At The Beach, will be alongside approximately 30 lots at the event in Quad South Hall on Saturday 11 October. The auction will raise funds for the Wilberforce Trust, a charity that supports people in York and Yorkshire who have a visual impairment.

Works by professional artists with a local connection and professional artists with sight loss and/or other disabilities will also be up for sale. These include donated pieces from York-born Jake Attree, who is a graduate of the Royal Academy and is now based at Saltaire, and visually impaired artist Jacqueline James who lives in Clifton.

The money raised from the auction will contribute towards the charity’s projects which provide creative activities for people with sight loss and/or other disabilities to help them live a full and active life as independently as possible.

There will be a viewing exhibition on the day of the auction, from 12 noon, which is followed by a drinks reception at 7.00pm. The auction will begin at 8.00pm. Tickets are £10 and can be booked now.
