RSC actress visits York St John University

Published: 19 March 2014

Royal Shakespeare Company actress Pippa Nixon visited York St John University this week to work with Faculty of Arts students.

Pippa met students taking the Gender and Writing module as part of their literature or creative writing courses and shared her experiences of playing some of Shakespeare's greatest female roles.

Her recent roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company include Rosalind in As You Like It, Ophelia in Hamlet and the Bastard in King John.

Pippa also discussed playing Julia for the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Julie Raby, Head of Department for Humanities at York St John University, said: "Pippa has received some excellent reviews for her performances and it was a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear Pippa talking about her approach to performing gender and playing Julia in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, a text that students are studying this semester."
