Potential riders are invited to come to a launch event on campus on Thursday 4 June to find out more about the Prepare To Ride (P2R) programme.

The programme is designed to assist those who have not ridden in a cycle event before or those who would like to rediscover the joys of cycling.

Visitors can drop in between 2pm and 7pm for a free 45-minute advice session. This will give them an opportunity to discuss their exercise history, fitness goals and concerns with the team. If they wish they can take part in a simple cycle simulation which will help them decide if they want to take part in the HOY ride in September. There are two routes available as part of the HoY bike ride, a 22 mile route and a 40 mile option.

Following the launch event, participants of the P2R programme will benefit from a summer-long, optional schedule of cycle maintenance skills, exercise sessions and facilitated social group rides to build up fitness and confidence.

Phil McMahon, British Heart Foundation (BHF) York Committee Vice Chairman, said: “The Heart of York us such a unique ride; we do raise a significant amount of money for the BHF but of equal importance is our desire to engage more people in physical activity.

“This programme provides us with the opportunity to help those that will benefit the most from increasing their activity levels and re-gaining confidence.”

For more information or to register for the launch event please contact Richard Smith at York St John University on ysjactive@yorksj.ac.uk or (01904) 876300.
