York St John University is continuing to mark its 175th anniversary.

This week, a bench to commemorate the anniversary has been unveiled in the new garden area next to the recently opened Dining Room extension.

A bed of white York St John roses has also been planted to mark the occasion.

York St John was founded on 17 May 1841 and 2016 marks its 175th anniversary.

The University is using this opportunity to reflect on its heritage and, as one of the oldest higher education establishments in England, its long tradition of delivering high quality education. The anniversary also offers York St John the chance to look forward and discover how the institution can use our history and achievements to shape its future.

Next in the anniversary calendar is the continuation of this year’s Go York lectures, with guests including broadcaster Sandi Toksvig OBE, York St John alumnus Major Matthew Teeling, who has been awarded the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, and paralympian Martine Wright MBE. Bookings for all of these, plus the rest of the series, open next month – more details to follow nearer the time.
