York St John University staff dig in

Published: 04 October 2012

Staff from York St John University have been helping to transform playing fields in York into an outdoor classroom and community gardens as part of the York Cares Big Community Challenge.

Over 150 people from businesses and schools across the city have been working hard during the three day project to create raised beds, a shelter and pathways around the Greenfields site off Haxby Road.

Martell Linsdell, Widening Participation Co-ordinator at York St John University, said: “This community garden will be a fantastic addition to the city and will really benefit the children at Haxby Road primary school and the local community. We have really enjoyed helping and can’t wait to see the gardens when the project is completed.”
