York St John University student accommodation in the running for city award

Published: 17 June 2014

York St John Central is a contender in the York Design Awards 2014; a scheme that aims to recognise the best new building design in the city.

The latest addition to the University’s student accommodation portfolio has been nominated in the New Build Residential category and will also be put to the public vote in the Press People’s Award category where readers of the local paper are invited to choose their favourite of 23 nominations.

The eight-storey development, on Carmelite Street, has 258 bedrooms and opened last autumn. The property was designed by CSP Architects on behalf of S Harrison Developments Limited.

The deadline for voting is 12 noon on Friday 20 June. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 23 June.

Colin Parkin, Director, Estate Management and Development at York St John University, said:
“The shortlisting of St John Central for this year’s prestigious York Design Awards is terrific news and further testimony to the exceptionally high quality of our iconic residential student facility in the heart of the city.”
