Staff and students raise money by de-cluttering for Christmas

Published: 20 November 2012

Staff and students at York St John University have been busy de-cluttering their homes for Christmas in a bid to help raise money for a local Oxfam charity.

Donations have been made throughout November with students and staff already giving hundreds of books and CDs to the Oxfam bookshop on Low Petergate, which works hard to raise money to help overcome poverty and suffering in the world as part of Oxfam Trading UK.

John McKay, manager of the Oxfam bookshop on Petergate, said: “All the books, DVDs and CDs donated will be sold in our shop on Low Petergate in York to raise money for Oxfam causes. We are really pleased to be working with an organisation like York St John University as it gives us an opportunity to strengthen our relationships within our community.”

Martell Linsdell, widening participation coordinator at York St John University, said: “Donating to Oxfam has been a great opportunity for the whole University community to contribute to Oxfam’s International effort.  At the same time as making space on our shelves we have also had the chance to buy new reading material from the Oxfam bookshop, creating a perfect cycle of exchange and benefiting some great causes.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the Oxfam bookshop can do so in the University’s Holgate reception until the end of November or drop into the shop on Low Petergate. To find out more about the Oxfam bookshop please their website
