Published: 18 December 2012

The Project 26 exhibition is free to the public and will display a variety of contemporary art forms including sculpture, mixed media, new media, 2D works and installation art, all created by third year students who are currently studying towards a BA in Fine Art at York St John University.

The students have led on the exhibition from its inception to completion, with the artists putting their hearts into each step of the process, and seizing this opportunity as a chance to jump-start their careers and speak personally about their work.

Natalie Willis, a student featuring in the exhibition, said: "Project 26 is a showcase of talented up and coming artists presenting themselves to the public and professionals. We had many successful exhibitions before but this will be our best exhibition yet."

Robert Teed, New School House Gallery owner, said: "It is fantastic to support emerging artists and the variety of work makes for a very engaging show."

The artists come from a wide demographic, with both young and mature students from different cultural backgrounds, resulting in an encompassing experience for all walks of life.

The New Schoolhouse Gallery is located on Peasholme Green in York. The National Trust building provides the iconic backdrop that York is renowned for, with contemporary artworks creating a brilliant and dynamic contrast to the historic space.
