Educational frameworks will be challenged at York lecture

Current frameworks for learning will be challenged during a lecture held at York St John University on 31 October.

The free lecture entitled ‘Learning business’ will be given by Professor Bob Garvey, who holds the chair in Business Education at York St John University Business School.  Professor Garvey’s inaugural lecture will offer an alternative model of education based on conversional learning.

Commenting on the lecture Professor Garvey says “There can be little doubt that those that learn the fastest in business are often the most successful.  But, SME business leaders are often patronised by public and private sector education providers alike who assume they know what they need!  There is research evidence to show that entrepreneurs learn through practical experience and prefer to learn from their peers.”

Professor Garvey is one of Europe’s leading academic practitioners of mentoring and coaching.  He has extensive business experience across many sectors including large and small business, the public and voluntary sectors.  He has developed many training films and contributed to international Webinars and developed interactive training materials.  Professor Garvey is also a mentor and coach for a number of people from a variety of organisations.

‘Learning business’ will take place at York St John Business School at 6.30pm on Wednesday 31 October as part of the University’s Go York events.  Go York is a series of lectures which bring together York St John University’s eminent academics, high profile speakers and the local community for a series of events to be enjoyed by all.
