Celebrating Interfaith Week

Published: 27 November 2014

Guests were invited to a tree-planting ceremony on campus to celebrate and support National Interfaith Week which took place16-23 November.

During the week, a number of events were arranged all over York to encourage people to discover more about the diverse and vibrant faith communities and their contribution to 21st Century York.

At the tree-planting ceremony, on Wednesday 19 November, the Vice Chancellor was joined by the Lord Mayor and Mayoress, the Sheriff and Sheriff’s Lady, Faith Advisors, staff and students from York St John and members of York Interfaith Group.

According to Dr Avijit Datta, one of York St John’s Faith Advisors and Chair of York Interfaith Group, the tree represented not only mutual understanding and interconnection but also the planting of green shoots that will grow.

Anyone who would like to learn more about York Interfaith Group and their schedule of events for 2015 can do so by the York Interfaith website.
